Ingredients
When it comes to making 4th of July cupcakes with cake mix, there are a few key ingredients you’ll need to have on hand. Here are the ingredients I used for my recipe:
- Cupcake Mix – I started with a box of brownie cake mix, which makes things super easy. You could also use white cake mix if you prefer.
- Eggs- You’ll need 1 egg to mix in with the cake mix.
- Vegetable Oil- Vegetable oil is another key ingredient in the cake mix. I used 1/4 cup of vegetable oil.
- Buttercream style icing – you can choose any brand. I have used 1 cup of icing
- Blue Food Coloring- For the blue colors portion of the cupcakes, I used blue food coloring. Again, you can adjust the amount based on your preference.
- White Frosting – To top off the cupcakes, I used white frosting. You can use store-bought frosting or make your own.
- Sprinkles- Finally, I added some patriotic sprinkles to give the cupcakes an extra festive touch. You can use any kind of sprinkles you like, or skip them altogether if you prefer.
How to Make Best 4th of July Cupcakes
Here are the steps to make delicious 4th of July Cupcakes using Cake Mix.
Preheat the Oven. First, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your cupcake tin with 12 cupcake liners and set it aside.
Mix the Cupcake Batter. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, egg, oil and water. Mix in the dry ingredients until they are well combined. Scrape the edges of the bowl to ensure that all the ingredients are well incorporated.
Bake the Cupcakes. Fill each cupcake liner about 1/2 full with cake batter. Bake the cupcakes in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cupcakes comes out clean. Allow the cupcakes to cool.
Decorate with Frosting and Sprinkles.
Divide white buttercream style icing in two separate small bowls. Add a few drops of blue food colouring to one and leave the other one untouched. Warm them up in a microwave for 10 seconds it should become softer and easy to place in a piping bag.
Start with one colour (blue or white) and pipe a desired amount of frosting on top of a cupcake aiming to achieve a rosette shape, top up with white frosting and allow colours to mix or use a separate piping bag for a clean white look. Sprinkle each cupcake with patriotic sprinkles.
That’s it! With these simple steps, you can make delicious 4th of July Cupcakes using Cake Mix.
Tips and Tricks
1. Don’t overfill your cupcake liners
When filling your cupcake liners with batter, be careful not to overfill them. If you do, the cupcakes will overflow and lose their shape. A good rule of thumb is to fill each liner about two-thirds of the way full.
2. Use a piping bag for frosting
If you want your cupcakes to look extra special, I recommend using a piping bag to frost them. Not only does it give them a professional look, but it also allows you to be more creative with your designs. If you don’t have a piping bag, you can also use a zip-top bag with the corner snipped off.
3. Decorate with patriotic sprinkles
To make your cupcakes extra festive, consider decorating them with patriotic sprinkles. You can find these at most grocery stores around the 4th of July. They come in a variety of shapes and colors, such as stars, stripes, and red, white, and blue jimmies.
How to Store Cupcakes
When it comes to storing 4th of July cupcakes made with cake mix, there are a few things to consider. Here are some tips to ensure your cupcakes stay fresh and delicious:
- Store cupcakes in an airtight container: Once your cupcakes have cooled completely, store them in an airtight container. This will help prevent them from drying out and keep them fresh for longer.
- Keep cupcakes in the fridge: If you’re not planning on serving your cupcakes right away, it’s best to store them in the fridge. This will help keep them fresh for up to 3-4 days.
- Avoid storing cupcakes in direct sunlight: Direct sunlight can cause the frosting to melt and the cupcakes to dry out. It’s best to store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Freeze cupcakes for long-term storage: If you’re not planning on serving your cupcakes for a while, you can freeze them for up to 2-3 months. To freeze, wrap each cupcake tightly in plastic wrap and place them in an airtight container or freezer bag. Thaw cupcakes at room temperature before serving.
